Jewelry Designer Grace Chan and Child

Indulgems' Jewelry designer Grace Chan releases her creative energy by making gemstone jewelry into wearable art. Her designs reflect her multicultural background and years of traveling and living in foreign countries. She focuses on creating tasteful, elegant and feminine gemstone jewelry that is conscious of the modern-day woman without being overly trendy.

Grace discovers the best and most unique stones by traveling extensively to gemstone bazaars and private brokers throughout the world. Her keen eye for detail and color is the driving force behind the unconventional balance of delicacy and boldness in her jewelry designs.

Indulgems Jewelry by Grace Chan has been featured in the pages of InStyle, Marie Claire and other fashion-forward magazines. You can find Indulgems jewelry at high-end specialty stores and boutiques nationwide and abroad, or here in our online catalog.

JEWELRY DESIGNER Q & A:

GRACE CHAN - WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH DESIGNING AND WHEN?

I always loved arts and crafts while growing up. Things that required working with my hands and imagination inspired me the most. I started designing jewelry for myself when I was 18, using inexpensive store bought beads and strings. Once I discovered the colorful world of gemstones, I upgraded the jewelry - and suddenly there was no turning back. I had found my passion!

WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION FOR YOUR DESIGNS?
I believe my multi-cultural background is the backbone to my designs. My work is deeply influenced by a constant internal battle – love for the intricate and delicate esthetics from my Asian roots vs. yearning for the bold and the unique from my decades of living in the US. My designs are often described as striking a balance between delicacy and boldness, and I take pride in achieving this blend.

I am also an avid gardener. My love for nature also shows in my designs. I often use fluid, organic forms to complement the gemstones I use.

DOES YOUR DESIGN WORK REFLECT YOUR PERSONAL STYLE AT ALL?
I design what I truly love. So yes, my work reflects my personal style – not overtly trendy, wearable but stands out. There are always some elements of surprise that defy the norm.

FONDEST MEMORY?
When my son wrote a love letter to me. He was 4, and he wrote "I Love You Mom" and drew some hearts on a piece of scrap paper. That was my first love letter from a guy! Since then I have received quite a few from him, always random and unexpected.

FASHION OBSSESSION?
Other than great jewelry.... shoes! I love fashion, but I do not always follow fashion trends when it comes to clothing. When you reach a certain age, you kind of know what looks good on you. However, when it comes to shoes, I am more daring!
